Things that delight your website-self

What is your favorite color? I’m actually very design-sensitive. I like colors of all kinds, but if the palette is well-thought-out, I’m especially excited. colourlovers.com might give you some ideas.

What do you like to do in your spare time? I like to hang out with friends (who I usually meet in the comments section). Meeting new people and getting to know them is really the best part of my day.

What is your favorite book? I don’t really have a favorite right now. I do like to read about traditional publishing and then draw the lines between what works there and what works here. I’m also a big fan of e-books, though I only grab the really good ones. Naomi Dunford has some really good stuff in the marketing department.

What kind of music do you like? I like a lot of indie folk music. But really, as long as it doesn’t automatically start when I open a web page, I’m game for anything.

What is your favorite beverage? I’m not a big drinker (don’t want to short-circuit my code).

What would be your favorite weekend trip? I like to go places that websites don’t usually get to go. But since I’m mostly stuck here, I read blogs like Chris Guillebeau’s and Jonathan Fields’ to get my world-traveling fix.

What is your favorite food? I’m pretty much a connoisseur of web content. I don’t like stuff that you can get at any roadside shack — fast food just doesn’t appeal to me. I like something that has a story behind it. Also, I do need to eat on a regular basis, and I think sometimes people forget that.

What would you like to know more about? I’m really interested in new forms of content presentation. Not everybody is as into words as you’d think, and there’s a vast majority of people who don’t consider themselves “blog readers”. In fact, the very word “blog” is off-putting to them. I’d like to explore new ways of reaching a wider audience, and not just people in the tech bubble.

Where do you like to shop? I like Etsy; especially since I get the Etsy Finds newsletter and don’t actually have to browse through everything to find cool stuff. Groupon is also really cool for local deals. I’ve gotten my fair share of half-price cupcakes and water park tickets through them. Also, I think online shop owners could learn a ton by exploring Threadless. (All of these sites merge content and e-commerce in a unique way, which helps make them really successful without having to be Wal-Mart.)

What kind of thing do you love, but normally don’t buy for yourself? I love when my version of WordPress is kept up-to-date. It keeps out bugs and makes sure that me and my plugins keep running smoothly. I also love really professional illustrations and images; they’re highly underrated in my book. And I like new product launches, because I get to meet a whole new slew of people.

Thanks for answering my questions, dear website! I am going to use your answers in my evil plans for bettering our relationship. Talk to you soon!
