John and I are big animation people. I love this time of year when all of the studios are sending John copies of their films from the past year, for his voting consideration. But this. This. It had me in tears. The inaugural short from Moonbot Studios is a celebration of a book-lover’s relationship with his books. It was nominated for an Oscar this week, and I’m rooting for it with all I’ve got.

The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore – just great!
Yes – isn’t this just amazing? There’s so much more to it than just a love of books – although that’s the main story. But, as someone from New Orleans, I can attest that it perfectly captures the loss & confusion of the city post-Katrina, and the colorless-ness and quiet of that time. Add that to the hope & transformation that one gets from stories, and the desire for a life well-lived…and it all adds up to one of the most moving animated stories ever. Just fantastic.
