A letter from your website

Update: Registration is now closed; get on the list for future sneak peeks and discounts

Hello there,

It’s me. Your website. Hey, I know I’ve been distant lately. It’s just…I feel so much pressure. You want me to bring you a bigger audience, more conversions. You want me to elevate your brand and ultimately make you more money…or any money at all.

Yes, I know it’s not all about the money for you. You’ve got that huge world-changing vision and all. I really admire you for doing your work with so much passion and meaning.

But can I tell you something? Lately, I’ve been feeling a little neglected. I feel like we’re in a rut. Yeah, we’re going through the motions…more or less. But I miss really connecting with you. I miss feeling like together, we can accomplish anything.

I know you’re busy, but I have an idea. What if we had a weekly date together? What if we got someone to plan it out for us and actually give us rewards for doing it every week? It would cost us a little, sure, but I just know we could make magic happen if we spent this quality time together.

I hope you don’t mind, but I went ahead and found someone who does exactly this type of thing. Her name is Sarah J. Bray — she’s super-smart, and her clients are always saying awesome things about the work they’ve done together. And now Sarah’s put together this whole curriculum of strategically-planned website dates (complete with a really cool date book that you add to every week). She even sends weekly prizes to the people who successfully complete them.

The price is $32/month, which I think is a crazy steal. I can barely take you to Panera for that (admittedly, I eat a lot).

So what do you say? No pressure or anything (well, there’s a tiny bit of pressure; the last day to join is this Friday). But I’ll still love you even if we don’t take Sarah up on her offer. Still, I think we should try it — I’ve attached some FAQs that she sent me. Read them. I think it could work for us.

Yours truly,
Mo

P.S. If you don’t want to read the FAQs, we can get started here [registration's over; link removed] or regretfully decline.

A date with my website? What’s that?

It’s no secret that I love the web. In fact, I don’t even consider myself a web designer. I consider myself a promoter of a more meaningful web. Everything I do revolves around that.

But we entrepreneurs have this thing we have to do — make money. Put food in the fridge. Start fun projects. Raise awareness. Grow and flourish and leap. And we do all of this while having this amazing boundary — called time. Often, our websites end up at the bottom of the priority list. And it’s no wonder.

Most people I meet admit that they have no clue what they’re doing when it comes to their website. They see things other people doing and they try it.

They spend time adding widgets and writing blog posts and spinning their wheels — and it doesn’t seem to accomplish much. Even after they get a fancy schmancy new web design, they struggle to keep up with their original intentions because they have to…ahem…work.

I can’t add more hours to the day. But what I can do is get you amazingly clear on how to grow your business on the web (even if your website — and your business — is not perfect yet). I’ve developed a curriculum to help you commit to spending time with your website; time that you’ll be using to do real, strategic work that will bring real, measurable results. And this time, you’ll actually do it. Because there are prizes! And it’s fun! No more wheel-spinning involved.

How does it work?

First, you sign up.

Next, you’ll receive an email with a letter from your website inside. Inside the letter, you’ll find a link to the first week of your website date book. Here’s a little peek:

Then, you’ll follow the instructions. Some weeks, your website might take you on an outdoor adventure. Other weeks, you’ll be sitting together in a cozy coffee shop. Most weeks will involve a timer — not to rush you, but to allow you to focus (no tweeting or texting or phone-calling while the timer’s going) and to give you a good feeling of when you’re “done”. And sometimes you’ll want to keep going and not be done…and that’s okay. But when that timer goes off, you are free and clear to say, “I’m finished. Congrats, me.”

After that, it’s time for your reward! Shoot an email to the top-secret email address. You’ll receive a link to a password-protected page that leads to your reward.

Every week, you’ll read your letter from your website, add to your date book, complete your date, and get your reward. And every week, your web presence will get a little bit stronger, a little more cohesive, and a little more profitable. Until suddenly, your website is doing what you always wished it would do. And so are you.

Lesson: Persistance pays. Especially when you are persistently doing awesome, smart things.

Do I need to bring anything special on our date? Do I need to have any technical skills?

Just bring each other. But to get the most out of this curriculum, your website should be something that you can easily update yourself (like WordPress). Or you should have someone around who can update it for you.

As for technical skills, you should be familiar with how to make basic updates to your website. However, we are not going to be focusing on anything technical or design-related — it’s all super-smart strategy.

Do you offer tech-support? What if I want to make technical or design-related changes?

Well, at first the answer was no. And now the answer is an emphatic “sort of”; actually, what we’ve got going on is better than tech support. We have a Facebook group and a Twitter list (and a hashtag!). The group is full of movers and shakers who run the gamut from completely experienced pros to green-on-the-vine newbies (and me!). So if you have a question, ask there. And if you want to make technical or design-related changes (which are certainly not required and are not going to be our focus), you’ll need to hire someone. We’ll be focusing on super-smart strategy that you can implement yourself.

How long are these weekly hot dates going to last?

As long as you need them to. Let’s take it one date at a time. Just so you know, I have a year of hot dates mapped out. But as they say in show business…we’ll see where it takes us. (Actually, I’m pretty sure they never say that in show business. But they say it somewhere.)

How much time do I need to set aside each week for our date?

30 minutes. Every week. You can do this.

Is this for newbies? Is it for “oldies”? Somewhere in between?

This is for everyone who has a website. To put it in perspective, even I need this. Some of the activities we do might be familiar to you. Some completely will not. But they will be fun. They will be paradigm-shifting. They will be business- and web-altering.

What if I don’t like it? Can I get a refund?

If you sign up, get your first date, and change your mind, get in touch with us and we’ll give you a refund lickety-split. If you unsubscribe after your second date or beyond, just cancel your subscription — you won’t get a refund, but you won’t be charged again. And we won’t even bat an eyelid…we’ll even adore you for doing what’s best for you.

I forgot. How much is it again?

$32/month. Which is tons less than nothing, considering the increase in profits you’ll see when your website starts feeling the love. But if you’re going to do it, be sure to sign up before this Friday, June 17th. The doors, they are a-closin’.
